Yesterday, 22 January 2008, was a sad day for fellow-Australians and for the motion picture world when we were all struck with the shocking news of Heath Ledger’s unexpected death at the young age of 28.
Heath Andrew Ledger was born in Perth on 4 April 1979. His name was chosen by his mother who had always loved Emily Bronte’s novel, Wuthering Heights. She named her son Heath, after the character, Heathcliffe.
Heath began his acting career at the age of 16. He acted in such films as The Patriot, Monster’s Ball, Brokeback Mountain, for which he received an Oscar nomination for best actor in 2006, and most recently, The Dark Knight, 2005’s sequel to Batman Begins, in which he played the role of the Joker.
He was named one of People’s Magazine’s 50 most beautiful people in 2001.
He will always be remembered for his fine acting.
May you rest in peace Heath.
I’ll always remember you for the thrills and emotions you gave me in the roles you played.
